The film tells about the study of the cruel impact of the communist-bolshevik ideology on the cultural heritage and the way of thinking of Azerbaijan against of the background of the life and work of Mikayil Huseynov and Sadyq Dadashov - the great Azerbaijani architects of the 20th century.
“Let the architecture be modern, but it must preserve its nationalism.”
Creators is the latest International Feature submission for Azerbaijan. The film is a tribute to Mikayil Huseynov and Sadiq Dadashov - the great Azerbaijani architects of the 20th century.
Huseynov and Dadashov were both born in 1905 and were childhood friends. Both Mikayil and Sadiq came from very well-off families, specializing in steamships on the Caspian Sea. Both men studied together in school before beginning their careers in architecture.
After graduation, Mikayil and Sadiq started their work focusing on residential buildings around Azerbaijan but specifically in Baku. Unfortunately, their work together stopped suddenly as Dadashov passed away when he was 40.
Mikayil Huseynov would never work with anyone else.
Director Shamil Aliyev has created a film dedicated to two creators who have shaped the architecture of Baku. Their work still has a huge presence in the city, including the buildings of the Central Committee, the Azerbaijan State Conservatory and the Nizami Museum of Azerbaijan Literature. The film is a celebration of their work and a celebration on the beautiful city of Baku. It's a film showcasing how the city was created and the city that it is today.
Mikayil Huseynov passed away in 1992 and was buried in the Alley of Honour, right in the heart of Baku.
