Nice View is the latest International Feature submission from China. The film takes place in Shenzhen in 2013. And it follows a brother and sister who live together in a small apartment after their mother died and their father, subsequently, left them.
Jing Hao is 20 years old and he’s been taking care of his sister Tongtong for her entire life. She’s now six years old. She suffers from a heart problem and her doctor recommends that she gets surgery before she’s eight years old. Jing Hao owns a small cellphone repair shop called Nice View, but he doesn’t have enough money saved for the surgery, which will cost around $300,000 to $500,000 Yuan (roughly $40,000 USD). He’s having problems paying the rent and supporting both of them, let alone being able to save any money.
When a friend gives Jing Hao an opportunity of a lifetime for purchasing hundreds and hundreds of refurbished phones for a small amount, he takes out a $50,000 Yuan loan and puts his shop as collateral. To his misfortune, a few days later, the police begin breaking down into the knock-off phone industry making it illegal for anyone to sell these kinds of phones. This setback not only loses him his business, but their entire financial situation is wrecked.
Jing Hao though comes up with a creative idea to salvage all the parts for these phones and sell them back to the supplier.
